HEATH APPLIES SCHOOL AND GOVERNMENT CONSTRUCTION EXPERTISE, WINS THREE PROJECTSFort Collins, Colo., February 24, 2009 – Heath Construction, respected throughout the region for its deep experience building schools and government projects, was selected to build two gymnasiums in Aurora and a pre-engineered storage building for the Colorado Department of Transportation. The projects total nearly $2 million.
Aurora Public Schools selected Heath (www.heathconstruction.com) through a competitive bid process to build two 4,400-square-foot gymnasiums for Laredo and Wheeling Elementary Schools in Aurora, Colo. Construction, totaling $1.4 million for both gymnasiums, will begin in March, continue through the school year and finish by July 2009.
“Keeping kids safe is our number one focus on every school jobsite,” said Randy DeMario, president, Heath Construction.
Throughout construction the Heath team will work closely with school officials to ensure children’s safety and minimize the impact on learning. Sturdy fencing will safely separate playground areas from the construction site. Sound-adsorbing panels, installed between work areas and nearby classrooms, will prevent noise from disturbing teachers and disrupting schoolwork.
Heath, an award-winning provider of Chief pre-engineered metal buildings, won CDOT approval over 17 competing firms to build a 5,000-square-foot, 4-bay vehicle storage facility in Greeley, Colo. Construction of the $462,000 storage facility and associated site work starts this month. The building will be completed in early May 2009.
“Heath’s constructability review and analysis helps school and government officials stay within budget,” said DeMario. He explained that after bids are awarded, Heath’s estimating team works closely with building owners, architects, design consultants and subcontractors to recommend ways to reduce costs while maintaining all quality and functional features.
Headquartered in Fort Collins, Heath has constructed hundreds of educational and government facilities over the past decade. Recent projects include a $6.5 million multi-school expansion for Weld County School District 6; a $6.4 million addition to Mountain View High School in Loveland; Berthoud High School’s 18,000-square-foot gymnasium – part of a $2.9 million project that included classroom additions and a new field house; a $2 million new gymnasium and remodel for Cache La Poudre Elementary and Junior High Schools in Fort Collins; a $1.8 million fire station, featuring five fire-engine bays and a 42-foot-tall training tower for Platteville-Gilcrest Fire Protection District; and the $20 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Colorado State University – a joint venture with Hensel Phelps Construction Co.
