03/02/2009 - NEWS RELEASE: Colorado and Wyoming Cities Select Heath Construction for Three Library Projects

NEWS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLORADO AND WYOMING CITIES SELECT HEATH CONSTRUCTION FOR THREE LIBRARY PROJECTS TOTALING $6 MILLION

Fort Collins, Colo., March 2, 2009 – Heath Construction, which has a long history of high-profile municipal work, is completing construction of three public libraries in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming that total $6 million.

Heath (www.heathconstruction.com) is putting final touches on the City of Fort Collins’ new Council Tree branch library, which cost $1.6 million to construct and $6.6 million when all materials, furniture and other items are included.  The library is the city’s first LEED Gold-certified library.

The Windsor - Severance Library District chose Heath as general contractor for its new $1.3 million, 11,000-square-foot addition to its main library in Windsor.

The State of Wyoming contracted with Heath for a $3.1 million renovation of the old Cheyenne city library facility to create a modern, statewide research library and training center.

“Heath’s team has solid experience with municipal and educational facility projects,” said Randy DeMario, president, Heath Construction. “Over three decades, we’ve built award-winning projects throughout the region.”

The Fort Collins branch library occupies nearly 17,500 square feet above retail shops in Front Range Village shopping center at the corner of Harmony and Ziegler roads in Fort Collins. It includes a large meeting room, several study rooms and an open floor plan designed to accommodate the changing needs of the family-oriented facility.

Using environmentally sustainable construction practices, Heath built the library to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

In Windsor, Heath is constructing an 11,000-square-foot addition to the library district’s 15-year-old main library building, increasing the facility’s footprint to cover the entire library property. The addition will house library materials, a new children’s area, a teen area, a double-sided fireplace and an innovative drive-up service window. Overcoming the challenges of a tight building site and poor weather, the Heath team will complete construction – on schedule – this month.

For the Wyoming State Library project, Heath renovated the former city library, which was constructed in 1967, by ripping out interior walls and removing the original boiler, heating vents and outdated electrical system. Finishing demolition three weeks ahead of schedule, the team is installing new heating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment that meets client requirements for maintenance-free electrical and mechanical equipment.

The lobby of the renovated library will feature a retro look and include donated furnishings from the 1950s. Scheduled for completion in Spring 2009, the state’s new research library and training center will include training rooms, large open spaces for display of books and research materials, staff offices and space for updated computer and IT equipment.

Heath, headquartered in Fort Collins, has constructed or remodeled numerous municipal and educational facilities in Wyoming and Colorado. Projects include the $1.2 million renovation of Alta Vista Elementary School in Cheyenne; the award-winning $3.4 million Harmony Library for the City of Fort Collins and Front Range Community College; the $4.6 million Lafayette police facility; the $6.7 million Loveland Fairgrounds Park; the $6.5 million facility additions for Weld County School District 6; and the $20 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Colorado State University – a joint venture with Hensel Phelps Construction Co.
