HEATH CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS EARN LEED ACCREDITATION

Heath Construction strengthens its green-building credentials

Fort Collins, Colo., March 19, 2009 – Heath Construction (www.heathconstruction.com) has expanded the number of LEED-certified professionals on its construction team.

Brian Hergott, senior project manager, and Jim Matlock, project manager, recently became LEED-accredited after passing the Green Building Certification Institute’s accreditation exam for environmentally sustainable construction.

“Green building practices are a part of Heath’s culture,” said Randy DeMario, Heath president. “Brian and Jim join a team of LEED-accredited professionals who have planned and built several environmentally sound, LEED-certifiable projects in the region over the years.”

For example, Heath has served as general contractor on two LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) facilities for the City of Fort Collins.

Heath recently completed the $1.6 million, 17,500-square-foot Fort Collins Council Tree Branch Library, which may receive LEED Platinum certification – the highest level awarded. In constructing the Council Tree library for LEED certification, the Heath team used energy-efficient products and green-certified construction materials. The team also recycled more than 80 percent of the project’s construction waste.

Jim Matlock, project manager on the Council Tree Library project, said the facility was constructed with materials grown and harvested in accordance with green practices. Heath builders and subcontractors recycled cardboard, dry wall, steel, office paper and plastic trash. Adding to Heath’s green-building practices, the Poudre River Regional Library District staff selected eco-conscious furnishings and equipment for the completed facility.

In 2004, Heath served as general contractor for the LEED Silver-certified $1.9 million vehicle storage facility for the City of Fort Collins. Designed to house seven drive-through apparatus bays  with wash and storage areas, tool cages, restrooms and a break room, Heath constructed the 15,250-square-foot building with a unique, multi-tiered saw-tooth roof, which provides maximum benefit of natural lighting. Use of clerestory lighting, green-building materials and other sustainable features qualified this facility for LEED Silver certification.
