HEATH CONSTRUCTION EARNS STATE AWARDS FOR MUNICIPAL AND UNIVERSITY PROJECTS
AGC of Colorado Honors Two Heath Projects Totaling $14.7 million
Fort Collins, Colo., April 9, 2009 – A panel of Colorado construction experts presented Heath Construction (www.heathconstruction.com) statewide awards recognizing construction excellence for a $7.6 million, 48-acre park in Loveland, Colo., and the $7.1 million Bioenvironmental Research Building for Colorado State University.
At the ACE Award ceremony in Denver, the Association of General Contractors, Colorado chapter, presented Heath a Silver Award for Fairgrounds Park in Loveland and a Bronze Award for the CSU project in Fort Collins.
For Fairgrounds Park in Loveland, judges recognized Heath’s innovation in transforming the old, abandoned fairgrounds site to the enlivened Fairgrounds Park, and overcoming the site’s biggest construction challenge – the Big Thompson River.
“We built structures and concrete walls in the river capable of withstanding a raging
100-year flood,” said Randy DeMario, president, Heath Construction. “The Big Thompson River gave us four-months of low water to accomplish critical concrete work seven feet below the river bed.”
In addition, Heath transformed two livestock barns – once a focal point for the county fair – into airy, covered pavilions ready for large group picnics, farmers’ market and other community events. The team built a street-course skate park, three picnic structures, four parking lots and four lighted ball parks with dug outs, bleachers and a concession stand. They also constructed the town’s first dog park, a bathroom facility, river-themed children’s playground and water park spraying arcs of water within concentric and overlapping concrete circles.
At the same ceremony, AGC honored Heath with a Bronze Award for the company’s innovative techniques in constructing a 22,000-square-foot, completely airtight addition to the Bioenvironmental Research Building at Colorado State University. The facility meets all biocontainment and safety standards to ensure safety for the surrounding community and scientists researching bioterrorism threats and deadly diseases.
Heath also joint-ventured with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. on the $20 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Colorado State University, which won a Gold ACE Award for Project of the Year, $15 million - $30 million category.
