Beau Jo’s with new architectural windows installed.

January 26, 2012

The new windows facing Mountain Avenue – seen here from the interior of Beau Jo’s – are truly beautiful.  This is what Montezuma Fuller imagined when he designed the Avery Building!

The restored transom windows in Beau Jo’s provide a clever way to bring indirect light into the dining room, highlighting the textures in the tin ceiling and other furnishings.  They are also practical.  With the new outdoor awnings mounted below the transom windows, the windows supplement the artificial light in the dining room and promise to reduce energy consumption.  Sunshine – the ultimate renewable resource!

In historic restoration, the excitement of discovering long-forgotten architectural features often comes with unforeseen challenges.  In this case, while rebuilding the framing for the transom windows circling Beau Jo’s, we needed to devise a foolproof way to seal the underside of the new window frames.
