“Welcome to the Avery Block Building restoration project!”
The construction of the Avery Block Building in 1897 was a landmark event in the history of Fort Collins. The restoration of the building is another. It is certainly one of our finest buildings – a grand design with a storied past. It was conceived by Franklin Avery, a true Fort Collins hero. It was designed by Montezuma Fuller, our first bona fide architect. When the restoration project is complete, the Avery Block Building will reclaim its rightful place as “the Grande Dame of Fort Collins.”

We’ve created this Avery Restoration gallery on our website to provide an easy way for you to explore the story of Franklin Avery, his marvelous building and his architect Montezuma Fuller. You’ll also be able to follow along as we restore this grand old building. Look for the blog on our progress. You may be surprised to read about the intricate art and science of historical restoration. And perhaps most important of all, with “before and after” photographs you’ll see examples of Fort Collins’ amazing transformation – and the creation of the beautiful town we share today. Explore. Have fun. We’ll be adding content all the time, so come back and visit often. Let us know what you think!
