“Repointing” begins!

New mortar for an old joint!

It takes a lot of finesse to properly repoint a masonry joint.  In wider joints that have been cleaned out, the mortar is applied in layers and packed into the joint.  Working at just the right pace, the mortar has time to harden somewhat as the layers build up, which also helps to control shrinkage.
