Stop by for a Colorado-style pizza from Beau Jo’s!November 4, 2011
Now that Beau Jo’s outdoor seating area has closed for the winter, repointing begins on the south side of the Avery Building.
One of the great challenges of historical restoration is working on a building in which retail shops and offices remain open for business. Safety is always our primary concern, of course. That’s why we erect protective enclosures and sidewalk barriers to shield customers, shop owners and pedestrians from construction hazards. But while we focus on safety, we also concentrate on minimizing the impact of construction on local business. In this case, our strategy was to schedule construction to start after dining has finished for the season on Beau Jo’s outdoor patio.
The masons in this photo got to work immediately after the outdoor dining area closed. Cleaning the brick and stone came first. Now they’re nearly finished raking the joints, and repointing is about to begin.
(For more on repointing the Avery Building’s sandstone and brick masonry, check out the blog entries “Raking the Butter Joints,” October 4, and “Repointing Begins!” from October 20.)
When spring comes around and you begin to think about outdoor dining again, our work on this side of the building will be done and our scissor lifts will be replaced by tables and chairs. Until then, whenever you find yourself in the mood for a great pizza, come on down to the Avery Building. As the sign says, Beau Jo’s is open during construction –- and serving the best pizza in town!
