Peeling away decades of paintNovember 5, 2011
With another application of Peel-Away, more of the original brick of the Avery Building is revealed.
The character of a distinguished building is revealed in a thousand small details. Sometimes, though, we are able to reveal a thousand small details all at once! With each application of Peel-Away, we remove layers of paint and see more of the original Avery Building.
(For more on safe paint removal, read the October 17 blog post, “Removing ancient paint safely.”)
Layers of original signage are buried beneath this paint. Look closely at the wall flanking Beau Jo’s Pizza on the corner of Mountain and College, and you may detect the faint, ghosted outline of headlines from decades past. Who was the last to read those headlines so long ago, before they were concealed behind that red paint? |
