Sagging floors no more!

November 7, 2011

If you were 114 years old, you’d probably be sagging here and there, too!

When we removed the storefront glass and disassembled the wall of the Town Pump, we found that the floors beneath the wall had sagged nearly 1-1/2” over the years.  A common finding in old buildings, it must be fixed to provide a foundation strong enough to withstand gravity for another 100 years.

This photo shows you the storefront of the Town Pump after we’d removed the glass – but before we uncovered the cause of the sagging floor.

With the knee wall removed, the sag in the floor is obvious – along with several layers of old flooring.  This will have to be fixed before we can begin rebuilding the storefront.

With the floor well-supported once more, we’re ready to rebuild the knee wall and prepare for new storefront glass.
